DoTerra Essential Oil - Lavender Magic!

So you've more than likely heard about Essential Oils by now. And you're probably wondering if they work, right? 

I remember growing up on natural remedies. Do you remember something called "Sun Rider"? Well I do, it stunk like something awful, and burned a little too. But you know what? It seemed to work on a sore throat! Crazy. And maybe it was a placebo affect, who knows, but in the end I felt better. Natural remedies have been around for thousands of years, and even though a lot of them may not match the potency of modern day medicine, they make a difference.

So with all the buzz lately, my husband and I decided to do our own research using DoTerra Essential Oils. Is it really all that it's cracked up to be? Do they make a difference? Based on our experience, the short answer is yes, but we're not yet sure if they do absolutely everything they promise to do.

But for now let's focus on the positive with a good story. 😄 Not too long ago my husband was helping me in the kitchen with some cooking and somehow managed to accidentally grab a super hot casserole dish, that he didn't know was hot! haha Needless to say it left a nasty mark and burned his right hand pretty good. Based on a book that we purchased on when to use certain oils, we found that DoTerra's Lavender Essential Oil would supposedly help with mild burns, so we decided to throw some on. Why not?! Because we all know that burn creams are dodgy at best.

So we grabbed the bottle and put a couple drops on his hand, and low and behold it worked almost instantaneously! The burning sensation went away within a minute or so, with no blisters, and no scar. Needless to say we were SUPER surprised and pretty impressed.

So as we continue to learn and grow with Essential Oils we'll be sure to post them here.

My Review:  To test these products, I placed just 1-2 drops of the Vitamin C Serum on one half of my face, and placed 1-2 drops of the Hyaluronic Acid Serum on the other side of my face, morning and night for 5 days.  I then applied a small amount of Yalmeh's moisturizing lotion  (it doesn't take a lot) over all of my face.

The Vitamin C Serum is like most other serums on the market as far as consistency, not as thin as water, but not gel like. In addition to Vitamin C, this product contains Jojoba oil, Aloe, Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid.

The side in which this Vitamin C Serum was applied resulted in the best results for me.  I verified with my husband and he agreed.  Less wrinkles, more supple skin, more plump looking, not hallow.  He was impressed.

My Product Review:  Turmeric or Curcumin is one of those items that should be in everyone's medicine cabinet or spice rack.  It controls diabetes, builds and improves the immune system, and digestive system.  It speeds up wound healing.  (Put it directly on cut or wound.)  It's a natural liver detoxifier and a natural pain killer.  Turmeric does so many more wonderful things.

Australia

Australian makeup artist Napoleon Perdis says yarrow extract is used by Australian Aboriginal women to prevent stretch marks, thanks to its moisturizing and hydrating properties. “Yarrow root is also an anti-inflammatory, which soothes the skin.” Calm your complexion with his Auto PilotPre-Foundation Primer , which contains the extract as a key ingredient.

But even if you aren’t genetically blessed, you can still take a cue from the women of Greece. “There are other factors that contribute to their glowing complexion: They eat a Mediterranean diet high in fish, which provides skin-rejuvenating omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, as well as fruits and vegetables, which provide antioxidants and vitamins. They also believe their intake of olive oil contributes to their great skin." So, start reaching for the olive oil instead of butter for better skin.

Israel

Cygalle Dias, owner of New York City’s Cygalle Healing Spa, was born in Israel and believes in the healing powers of sea salt. “When you swim in the Dead Sea, all of the salt helps your body rid itself of toxins, and it has also been known to help cure skin diseases.” To get the detoxifying benefits of sea salt at home, Dias shares her spa’s Lavender Sea Salt Scrub recipe: Mix together ¼ cup sea salt, 1 pinch seaweed powder, ½ cup massage oil and 10 to 15 drops lavender oil. Apply to skin to gently exfoliate.

Italy

How do Italian women maintain their glossy locks? According to Fabio Scalia, Italian hairstylist and owner of Fabio Scalia salon in Brooklyn, New York, the answer is right in your kitchen. Italian women keep their hair shiny by combining yogurt and olive oil and using the mixture as a conditioner. “The protein in the yogurt gently nourishes and conditions.” To whip up the rich treatment at home, Scalia recommends mixing 1 cup of plain whole-milk yogurt with 1 teaspoon olive oil. Then apply the mixture to washed hair, let it sit for 5 minutes and rinse with cool water.

Japan

Titi Branch, the half-Japanese cofounder of Miss Jessie’s hair care line, credits seaweed for Japanese women’s long, silky hair. Nori is a rich source of the trace mineral iodine, which is essential for healthy hair growth. (According to Branch, the iodine added to table salt isn’t the right kind to nourish your hair because your body doesn’t easily absorb it.) Seaweed is also a rich source of other mane-strengthening minerals—including iron, zinc, selenium and copper. “Japanese women either eat nori seaweed or boil it and apply it to dry hair as a nourishing paste.” Head to your local Asian grocer or health food store to pick up sheets of nori. “It’s traditionally used to wrap sushi, but you can use it like a tortilla to wrap up veggies with a dash of soy sauce, or crumble the sheets and sprinkle them on a salad, rice or stir-fry,” advises Branch.

Spain

Spanish women bring out natural, subtle highlights in their hair by rinsing it with cranberry juice, says Vadhera. Try mixing ¼ cup pure juice (not cocktail blends) with ¼ cup water and doing a final rinse with it in the shower. “If you’re going to be in the sun, the cranberry juice brings out the rich hues in your hair,” she says. “It works amazingly on brunettes, but if you’re blonde you’ll want to use lemon juice instead to avoid ending up with pink hair.”

Sweden

Swedish women attribute their glowing, healthy skin to their diet of antioxidant-packed fresh berries and grilled fish, says Petra Strand, Swedish makeup artist and creator of makeup line Pixi, now available at Target. Review:  Having just gone through an entire summer drinking green drink containing a lot of the same ingredients listed above, I was certainly anxious to give this a try.  The biggest difference is that my ingredients were fresh, not dried.  I stopped making our green drink, due to infestations of fruit flies which love wheat grass.  In the hot humid climate I live in, they thrived.  Now that the weather is getting cooler, and humidity has dropped, I'll be growing more wheat grass.

During the summer months, I would consider taking the Total Nutrition Supplement.  However, 1 packet costs $70.00.  I couldn't find anywhere on their website how many servings that contains.

Compared to the fresh ingredients vs. the dry ingredients, both DH and I agree, we would take the fresh any day over the powdered.  They do recommend you add this to either soy, rice, or oat milk, or juice or water.  How about adding it to their Superfood Smoothie:
                                           10 oz. peach or mango juice
                                           1/2 cup each of frozen pineapple, peaches, and strawberries
                                           Blend with 1 scoop Total Nutrition until smooth.

Total Nutrition is a great alternative though if you don't want to mess around with juicing  your own greens.  We did notice an improved difference in our health and energy, and being able to sleep better at night when we were drinking "green drink."

Pros:  Filled with all the great nutritional products to provide you with the necessary nutrients you need.  Your body will go from "surviving" to "vibrant."

Cons:  A bit more than I want to pay for something that doesn't list on the website how many servings you are getting.  The powder will taste better mixed in juice or smoothies, not with water.

My Rating:  Thumbs Up and Down.  A great product, just not sure about the price.

My Product Review:  I've always been one to seek after the natural way of healing through herbs.  I personally believe there are a lot of good ones out there, as well as many that can do a lot of harm.  When I had the opportunity to test and try Noxicare, I was anxious to see how well it would really work.  

First of all, I had my husband taking these capsules, twice a day.  He has rosacea that causes pimple like things to get on the inside of his eyelids.  They are very painful for him, and his eyelids swell tremendously.  Several people have recommended that he take Turmeric to help relieve those symptoms.  He did until we ran out, and haven't been able to find more.  In less than 2 weeks after taking Noxicare, his eye has returned to normal and it feels much better.  Normally this would have gone on for a month or longer.

So I thought yeah, this works for him, what about for me.  One night I had a headache that wouldn't go away.  Possibly weather related.  I took 1 capsule, and no joking, within 15 minutes my headache was gone, and it didn't return.  About 4 or 5 nights later I had a hard time sleeping due to back pain from some extra strenuous exercising.  I took 1 capsule, and within 20-25 minutes my back pain dissipated.  I was able to sleep the rest of the night.  And unlike the usual, I did not experience the back pain upon my awakening.

I thought I would need to take a longer to decide if these all natural herbs would do their job or not.  For me it was pretty instant.  For my husband it took a little longer, but he still found relief in a shorter amount of time than usual.

My Product Review:  When our team ordered these, we were super excited to get the Queasy pops for kids because many of us moms have kids getting sick all the time.  We were also curious to try the Preggie drops to see if these would actually help stop Morning Sickness so many pregnant women get.  Well the day I got the Preggie pops my family went to a restaurant for dinner and I ended up getting food poisoning.  But here's the thing, even though I'm not pregnant, I decided to use some of those Preggie drops to ease the nausea.  And come morning I was so much better, I didn't vomit once! If these can work for food poisoning, then they'll work for Morning Sickness!  The only downfall to the drops is that they were really big, and hard, and where the lable is imprinted into the hard "candy" hurt the roof of my mouth.  So I ended up having to put that part on my tongue.

Review: My husband has had rosacea for a very long time.  He gets it so bad, that he will get the bumps on the insides of his eyelids.  He has been to eye doctors to help relieve him of this.  He has undergone some pretty hairy procedures to remove those bumps.  His eyes will swell up really bad even before going to the doctor.  His forehead is usually covered with enough spots to look like he's got the measles or something.  He keeps his hair longer on his forehead to hide it.  Sometimes when he eats really spicy foods, or gets really really stressed, his whole face turns into a big mass of red splotches and bumps.  Many doctors have told him it is something he'll just have to live with.

It's been 3 weeks exactly now.  The website says to give it a full 30 days.  Well, right now, look at the difference. He is so excited about the improvement.  We are in the process of waiting to hear back from the company if he needs to continue these products after 30 days of use, or stop then start again if the rosacea returns.

In the meantime, there are some other things he wanted to be sure was mentioned.  The routine does dry his face out during the day.  There is a moisturizer, which is step #4, but that doesn't really stop the sloughing off of the 3rd step poultice.  Since he works from home that isn't too much of a problem, but when he goes somewhere like to church, he has to continue to brush off the sandy type material from off his clothes.  He did say he's willing to put up with this because of the improvement he has seen.

Week 4

Pros:  My husband has never been so excited as this to see his face clear up from his long standing rosacea.  He keeps hoping it will last and not return.  The best part is that he hasn't had any of those bumps under his eyelids, and his skin is almost back to normal.

Cons:  For me the biggest downside to all of this is the smell.  It lingers all day all night.  I can't stand it.  I almost have to hold my breath when I kiss him because the products really stink.  My husband says he gets used to it, and is willing to put up with the smell because it is actually working.  His biggest complaint is that Step 3 product is very dry, and this sloughs off his face all day long.  Not only that, but there is not enough of this product to last 3 weeks.

Update:  When my husband received these products, the #3 like mentioned above in the Cons section was extremely dry.  We have been in contact with the  Skintactix Company via email.  (Their voicemail has not been set up.)  They have always responded within a 24 hour business day, have been extremely helpful and concerned about making good on their products.  They will be sending him a new #3 Green Tea Poultice, and did mention that #3 isn't supposed to be dry.  Unfortunately, it is made with a natural clay that has a sulfur smell, hence the smell that I cannot stand.  However, it was good that they let us know this. 

My Rating: A Great Big Thumbs Up for improving the rosacea for my husband!!!  A thumbs down on the smell and flakiness of the poultice (step 3.)  



UPDATE:  After 2 full months after my husband stopped using Skintactix products for his Rosacea, his face has remained clear.  We're both still very impressed.
