My Hair & God's Mercies

Details: Yvette didn't have a normal childhood.  Her father would come and go as he pleased, constantly breaking her mother's heart.  He loved all women, and loved that they loved him too.  She and her sisters had a hard life, but after turning her back on the Lord, Yvette found that the Lord chased her down until she was humble enough to let Him lift her up out of the mess that had become her life, love, and reason for living.  This is a Christian book, but does contain some language and sexual mentioning but not exclusive.  If this was a movie it'd be rated PG-13.

My Review:  This was an awesome book from the beginning.  The title intrigued me from the start.  I love the secret recipies Yvette adds at the end of each chapter (at least 3-4 recipes per chapter).  She also includes 4 front and back pages of colored photographs of her family, friends, and her growing up and changing stages of life.  Very cool to see and feel an even more intimate and loving relationship with the characters of this book, especially Yvette's church friends and family.  I love that this book is a short book, not meant to bring anyone down or seem like a book of complaining; but rather is very much an inspirational, motivating and eye opener type book.  She doesn't preach, she just says it how it was and is, and lets us get a look into her crazy life that has given her mercies from God every morning.  And BTW: the tid bit about her hair is a must read, I'm not spoiling that part of her adventure!

Pros: loved it all

Cons: I haven't made any of her recipes yet.
