Details: Clairol Natural Instincts, Brass Free. This hair dye received one of the top ratings
chosen by consumers for many reasons.
One is that it was ammonia free.
Another is that it was true to the shade on the box. It only takes 10 minutes. It lasts longer than
the 4-6 weeks it said on the box. It is
less damaging to your hair as well. On the box it says it will color your hair
without adding unwanted red and orange tones.
My Review: This is a multi-step process which I didn’t
mind. You wash your hair, apply the dye,
rinse out and apply their really good hair conditioner. That part I liked. I really liked how the color covered my hair,
and how true to the box color it was.
The last step was to apply another packet of Color Fresh 2 weeks after
coloring your hair to set the color, make it more intense and to last
longer. This part was absolutely
awful. My nice brown hair is now a
copper penny color. I don’t like red
hair on me. I now have that unwanted red
and orange tones that it said I wouldn’t get.
I’ve been washing my hair more frequently to get this last packet of
hair color out, and the copper color is remaining, while the brown color is
fading away.
Pros: The first packet of hair dye did what it said
it would do, colored my hair very nicely, and was true to the color on the
box. It did not have an offensive
smell. The process lasted about 10
minutes, as compared to 20-45 minutes with other hair dyes I have tried. The conditioner makes my hair really soft and
silky.
I did call Clairol and told them
what happened. They are sending me out a
full value coupon for a new box of hair dye.
They also told me how to remove the orange color from my hair, which I
will share for those who have experienced the same thing I did. Get a hot oil treatment from the store. DO NOT heat it up. Apply to dry hair and leave uncovered for 30
minutes. Rinse and shampoo. I haven’t tried this yet, but will be as soon
as I get a hot oil treatment.
Cons: The 2nd packet of color turned my
brown hair a copper penny color, which I do not like. Maybe lighter colors wouldn’t turn your hair
orange. This step can be skipped all
together.
My Ratings: A thumbs up if you do just the 1st step. A thumbs down if you continue with the 2nd packet. Clairol did offer the full value coupon for a new box of dye which gets a thumbs up as well.
